About Juni Wilds

The Hill Country most Texans love is just the parking lot. I'm Juniper Wilds -- Juni -- and I've spent a long time finding the door that gets you past it.

I grew up knowing which Fredericksburg winery was worth the drive and which one was just a pretty sign on 290. I've camped on the Guadalupe, eaten at the counter at Cranky Frank's before anyone called it a destination, and watched Enchanted Rock at sunrise without another soul in sight. The rest of Texas already loves Hill Country. My job is to make sure they love the right parts of it -- for the right reasons.

Hill Country Secrets is where I keep the guide I wish every Texas traveler had before they left home. Boutique lodging, the vineyards that actually earn the stop, river access that isn't already overrun, small-town dining worth going out of your way for, and itinerary architecture for the kind of weekend that restores you instead of leaving you stuck in a tasting room line with a hundred other people who found the same blog post.

Some of the links here earn a small commission. That doesn't change what makes the list. If I haven't personally vetted it, it doesn't go in The Cedar Chest.

Trail Insiders and Deep Hill Insiders get the full guide -- every tab of The Cedar Chest, the seasonal picks, and the spots that don't make any list but mine. The Hill Country will slow you down eventually. You might as well arrive knowing which door to walk through.
